Durdle Door & Lulworth Cove (Dorset - England)

Doing Nothing!
The final stop on the Jurassic Coast Experience trip by Discover Dorset was Durdle Door & Lulworth Cove. Durdle door is an arch made of limestone. It was originally just rock and over time, sea waves kept splashing and drilled a hole. Durdle just means 'drill' and here we have the Durdle door.
There's a huge car park atop and from there a relatively steep walk down a dirt track takes to the view of Durdle Door from atop. There are steps from here to reach the beach itself.

After about 8 months, I finally got to get wet in sea water and that's just amazing! I mean, yeah, I did see sea here, but throughout autumn & winter it was way too chilly to walk barefoot in the beach or into the water. Finally with the temperatures rising, finally I got to wear  midi skirts and go barefoot!!!

Similar to Dover, here too were the White Cliffs which was a fabulous backdrop for the bay and beach and water!!! The beach is filled with pebbles which was great acupressure on foot as I walked!!! There were little cave like structure along the white cliffs which were perfect to just sit & do nothing. The best way to enjoy the place - just sit there and do nothing!!!

Durdle Door is perfect location for any romantic couple or a family to go to and just sit there in the beach and just do nothing and a perfect weekend spot.
From there back to the car park of Durdle Door and walk along the cliffs and there at the end was Lulworth Cove. This is an almost circular space where sea water comes in & goes out. The rocks here date from Upper Jurassic (150 million years ago) to Cretaceous (65 million years ago) era, which is why this comes under UNESCO. A section here also has Oyster beds!

Compared to Durdle Door this wasn't so awesome. But further ahead on the other side of Lulworth Cove was Stair Hole which was again a natural hole in rock formations like Durdle Door but more rustic. Infact there are 2 holes here. However it isn't possible to get to the beach here.

  6. How nice you say that you can just sit there on the shore and do nothing. My favorite activity on a beach, not swimming. This is such an isolated place. I see no one else
    around.

  8. Amazing to explore rock formation in every places you visit like in the pictures. Likewise, the wonder of rock formation makes them mysterious. Discovering these rock formations are giving inspiration for some people.

  14. All these scenes might look beautiful, but I can't help recalling how these were drawn and taught during my school days during physical geography about erosion etc.
